At Securelux, we specialise in custom made security doors & windows. And by custom made, we mean any shape, any size, and plenty of other modifications. Of course, this includes pet doors! We sympathise with pet owners because we’re a family run business ourselves, so we know that pets are just as important as any other family member.

Giving them freedom can also take a load off our minds – when we’re busy, we don’t always have time to let them out, and sometimes our carpets can suffer for it! So, we can certainly understand the pros of giving them their own personal door.

However, as experts in the field of home security, we do have to advise that there may be cons as well.

Are They the Best Option?

Because we are the leading suppliers of Crimsafe, Australia’s highest quality security screens, we have great faith in our products. All of our screens come with a 10 year warranty, as they’re guaranteed to keep your home as safe as possible for as long as possible. When it comes to installing pet doors, however, this guarantee is not quite as certain.

Most of the time, a pet door for small dogs and cats won’t pose too much of a security issue, but when it comes to larger dogs, it’s often possible for humans to squeeze through as well! For this reason, it’s not recommended to leave the main door open while you’re away, which often defeats the point. Unfortunately, these issues mean that we cannot cover screens with pet doors under warranty.

Your Alternatives

Installing security screens raises the property value of your home, so you might want to consider solutions that maintain your added value. To this end, a pet door insert can be removed at any time. There are also glass pet doors which are less visible.
But of course, the decision is ultimately yours, and if you give us a call today, we’d be happy to talk you through your options of cat flaps, pet doors and windows, and other security products!
