You’ve taken the right steps in getting Crimsafe residential security screens installed, but now it’s time to think about how to maintain and clean your screens.

Cleaning and maintaining residential security screens isn’t difficult, but needs to be done on a regular basis to ensure you aren’t compromising the quality of your screens. How often you need to clean your screens also depends on where you live and the environment surrounding your home.

First, let’s look at how you clean your screens.

Cleaning Residential Security Screens

While Crimsafe mesh is corrosion resistant, it doesn’t stop it from trapping dust and impurities, which in turn, can give a stained look to your screens. A reddish colour stain is from impurities such as salt, moisture and dust, while a white fluffy mark is a salt build up.

Crimsafe screens have a lifespan of approximately 65 years, but you do need to keep up with the maintenance side of things.

Cleaning these screens is really as simple as washing down the screens and mesh with Crimsafe’s Wash and Wax (or you can use the wash and wax product you use on your car!) using warm water and a soft non-abrasive brush. Then it’s just a matter of wiping down with clean water and a soft cloth.

How Often do I Have to Clean my Security Screens?

As mentioned above, the frequency of cleaning of your screens depends on your location and how close you are to the coastline.

For those who live on the beachfront or within 100m of a bay, you should clean your security screens every 1 to 2 weeks.

For those who live around 1km from the beach and up to 1km from a bay, cleaning every 2 to 4 weeks is perfect.

Live between 1 – 10km from the beach or a bay? Cleaning every 2 to 3 months is best, while if you live more than 10km from the beachfront or a bay, you can get away with cleaning your screens every 6 months.

Residential security screens are a great way to keep your family and your belongings safe. By maintaining your security screens, you’ll get that protection for years to come.
